The late Chief S.L.Akintola played a significant role in the political emancipation of Nigeria from colonial rule and in the subsequent development of Nigeria State. He remains a fascinating even if controversial character, and this scholarly assessment of him helps to illuminate the history of Nigeria’s recent post, and in so doing also sheds light on the future course of political development in Nigeria.
This study makes extrnsive use of oral information as well as of newspapers that were published at the time. Other resources profitable used were the Hansards of the western Nigeria Legislature and those of the federal House of Representatives.
The facts of having been a personal witness to some of the events described makes the author more than qulified to assess these event as objectively as possible.
