Over the years, numerous scholars have worked on the nature of Yorùbá Proverbs. It is obvious from their submissions that Yorùbá proverbs are historical, empirical, dynamic, didactic, universal, analytical and dialectical. We have said that Yorùbá proverbs are empirical rationalisations of human behaviour. In sipte of this, it is the nature of proverbs to shroud their message in riddles which task the understanding and experience of the user. Proverbs are vulnerable if not analytical and dialectical.

This book is aimed, among other things, at re-emphasising the importance of proverbs, and popularising them particularly among the youths for the preservation of Yorùbá cultural heritage.
