Description

The novel tells the story of Mour Ndiaye, a government official determined to remove beggars from the city streets to improve the nation’s image and encourage tourism. However, in a society where giving alms is both a religious and social obligation, the disappearance of the beggars creates unexpected consequences. The beggars organize themselves and go on strike, exposing the hypocrisy, greed, and social inequalities within society. The book explores themes of power, poverty, dignity, corruption, and resistance in postcolonial Africa.
