Description

The Problems of Africa: The Need for Ideological Reappraisal is a book written by Obafemi Awolowo, a Nigerian politician and leader of the Yoruba ethnic group. He was also the founder of the Action Group, a political party that opposed the ruling coalition in the 1960s

The book is based on a series of lectures that Awolowo delivered at the University of Cape Coast in Ghana in 1976. It is also the first part of his Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Lectures

The book examines the historical, political, economic, and social problems of Africa and proposes a new ideological framework for solving them. Awolowo argues that Africa needs to adopt a democratic socialism that is based on African values and culture. He also criticizes the neo-colonialism and capitalism that have exploited and underdeveloped Africa

The book was published in 1978 by Macmillan Nigeria Publishers. It has 78 pages and is considered one of the most influential books on African politics and development
