Description
Literature and Black Aesthetics captures the theme of the Eighth University of Calabar International Conference on African Literature and the English Language (1CALEL). It is divided into eight sections. The central discourse of this selection of papers from the conference is that African Literature in modern times has moved from the Literature of Protest to the Literature of Assertion, Emancipation, and Self-examination. This fifth volune merges aesthetics in art with socio-cultural issues approached from a variety of inter-penetrating viewpoints. The diversity of Critical comments and the examination of issues are a demonstration of the tenets of literary criticism that reai art, is multi-dimensional. The Calabar Studies in African Literature aim at highlighting research priorities in African Literature. They should influence the quality of teaching and research in African literature everywhere.
