Description
Adebisi’s Tales is a collection of three different but loosely related stories. Their thematic preoccupation is very timely, especially in present-day Nigeria where women at different stages of life continue to fight for change, for voice, and the right to actualize their unique identities.
Adebisi takes us on a journey through her life and the lives of Ini and Yomi. We virtually feel the helplessness of these women as they are subjected to different levels of abuse including sexual objectification. The choices the women make have dire consequences on the quality of their lives.
Adebisi’s Tales brings to the open such topical issues as mental illness, suicide, grief, family and spirituality. It presents the undeniable void that only God can fill in the lives of people. Adebisi does not just relate stories, she shows the path to take to avoid pitfalls and to win over difficult situations. These stories serve to encourage women to hold on to their voice irrespective of the challenges that life throws their way. They charge women to remain true to their dream and purpose.
