Alayande as Educationist is essentially a study of Archdeacon Alayande’s contribution to west-ern education and social change in Ibadan between 1948, when he began his active teaching career in Ibadan, and 1983. Based on oral and archival sources, the work examines the development of western education in Ibadan, identifies its problems and focuses on the role of Alayande in tackling them. It explores the different facets of Alayande’s career as an educationist, politician, religious leader, trade unionist,philanthropist and patriot and portrays his influence in the career development of many illustrious Nigerians. It is well researched and lucidly written. The book will be a good reference material to students of education and history, and those who wish to excel in their chosen professions.
Dr. Ezekiel Oladele Adeoti hails from Efon Alaaye in Ekiti State, Nigeria. He attended Federal Government College, Warri (1975-1978), University of Ife (now Obafemi
Awolowo University), Ile-Ife (1979-1983), where he obtained his B. A. Hons (Second Class Upper Division) in History. In 1986, he completed his M. A. degree and
obtained his Ph.D. in History in 1995, both at the University of Ibadan. Dr. Adeoti has taught at both secondary and tertiary institutions. He is currently a Lecturer in History and International Studies at the Lagos State University(LASU), Lagos, Nigeria. He is married with children.
