Description
Contained in this volume you have in your hands are the post-episcopal ordination homilies of Most Rev. Matthew Hassan Kukah, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, known simply and fondly called by his readers, audience, admirers, well-wishers, and friends as Fr. Kukah. Like his The Mustard Seed, At the Name of Jesus is also a collection of his homilies preached at different liturgical events in the course of his episcopal ministry. But unlike The Mustard Seed which is a collection of newspaper homilies and exhortations he contributed as a columnist earlier in his priestly ministry, At the Name of Jesus is a collection of occasional homilies preached to live congregations at milestones and historic events like jubilees, ordinations, Chrism Masses and funerals. True to his style and unique way of writing, the homilies in this collection are not the type that delight, perhaps even produces streams of quick tears that disappear quickly. In short, they are not platitudes. You know what such stands for. Rather, the homilies contained herein are the types that challenge and lead to soul searching. They are homilies that resonate with the human condition, the reality, if you like, on the ground. They are the type that console and give hope to the afflicted while at the same time afflicting and discomforting the comfortable. Most Rev. Matthew Man-Oso NDAGOSO Archbishop of Kaduna Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah is the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Nigeria. After his episcopal ordination, he has served in different capacities as Chairman, of the Committee on Inter-religious Dialogue, Catholic Bishops’ Conference, Nigeria (2012-present); member, of the Pontifical Council for Inter-religious Dialogue, Vatican City (2012-present); Chairman, of Committee on Inter-religious Dialogue, Regional Episcopal Conference of West African, RECOWA (2012-present). On 11th December 2020, the Holy Father appointed Bishop Kukah as a member of the Dicastery for the Promotion of Human Integral Development.
