Nigeria’s 2011 General Elections: The international Dimensions and Challenges is the 89 in the series of public lectures organized by the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs. In this lecture, Professor Attahiru M. Jega, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, dealt with the international dimensions of elections in Nigeria. He examined the complex interaction between domestic politics and foreign policy in Nigeria, the impact of global developments on the conduct of domestic elections, and the globalization of elections and elections management. The author concluded that Nigerians strove hard for electoral reforms and received tremendous international solidarity to bring these to fruition He noted that the formidable challenge remaining to be addressed is how to continue to bring further improvements to the electoral process and prevent a reversal to the old order of chaotic and fraudulent elections with the attendant negative consequence of bad governance,
