Public Discourse on the Humanities is a collection of Prof Olu Obafemi’s public lectures, keynote addresses and lead papers at various venues in the last six years. The papers touch on diverse issues of public interest such as Culture, History, Theatre, Language and Literature. The book represents a conscious effort by the writer-critic to retrieve the fading national consciousness in his society, interrogate the contradictions in the polity and reinscribe matters of socio cultural importance into the discourse of Nigeria’s nationhood. Each of the twelve chapters of the book makes a definite statement on the Nigerian state, the black Africa and the human race.
