The Travails of Democracy and the Rule of Law is a book written by Obafemi Awolowo, a Nigerian politician and leader of the Yoruba ethnic group. He was also the founder of the Action Group, a political party that opposed the ruling coalition in the 1960s
The book is the second part of his autobiography, titled Adventures in Power. It covers his experiences and reflections during the political crisis and turmoil that rocked Nigeria in the early 1960s. He also analyzes the causes and consequences of the breakdown of democracy and the rule of law in Nigeria
The book was published in 1985 by Evans Brothers (Nigeria). It has 396 pages and is divided into 16 chapters. It is considered one of the most candid and insightful accounts of Nigerian politics and history in the pre-civil war era
